A New Song from the Philippines

On October 1, 2011, the Sisters of Our Lady of Good Counsel Province of Indonesia had great reason to celebrate.

Two more postulants, Charito de los Santos and Prescilla Magada, were invested as novices of Notre Dame in the Philippines. Our “First Sisters” of this mission now number five: four novices and one Junior Professed.

On the night before the big day, the Sisters of the mission, especially Sisters Maria Yosefa and Sister Maria Elisa, worked long into the night cooking many wondrous dishes of the Philippines. There would be plenty to eat and enjoy the next day. Other sisters prepared the chapel and the music; the teachers of the school formed the choir.

The day was quite hot and sunny, and full of God's gracious goodness and provident care...the theme of the day. Many friends, family, and visitors came and filled the formation house chapel to overflowing. Three priest friends of the Sisters came to concelebrate and join in our happy event.

Prescilla is now Sister Rose Marie and Charito is now Sister Maria Charito, and after these days of festivities, they will return to Bataan International Formation House for their canonical year. Sister Jean-Marie, the first Filipina to enter the congregation, renewed her vows on this day, and she is in residence on the mission of Guimaras. She is now a second year Junior professed sister.

The Indonesian Sisters responsible for the mission sites of Iloilo and Guimaras are Sisters Maria Klaudia, Maria Yosefa, Maria Elisa, Maria Shinta, and Maria Elisabeth who is a third year Junior professed sister. Sister Maresa from Christ the King province was in attendance as Novice Director.

Many thanks to the congregation for the support and loving interest of so many of you!
