Proposals
On Friday, November 26, the chapter opened with a prayer service prepared by the sisters who serve in Africa. It was called “Listening to the Cry of the Poor in Africa.” As part of the service, which included African music and prayers, the capitulars saw through pictures and statistics the how the poor and vulnerable especially women and children are exploited. How HIV/AIDS impacts those who live in Sub-Saharan Africa and the plight of children forced to become soldiers as young as seven. You can find the entire prayer service along with all of the other prayer services on the main page of the reserved section of the website.
For the rest of the day, the chapter members dealt with the proposals. First, they voted on the proposals that had not been associated with any of the six themes addressed in the working groups. Then they voted on the individual proposals that were included in the themes, one proposal at a time. They used the electronic voting equipment for all of their proposal votes.
The themes which incorporated some proposals are (in alphabetical order):
• Formation for Mission
• Justice Peace and the Integrity of Creation
• Prophetic Witness, Identity, Charism, Mission
• SND Governance Structures
• SND Missions “Ad Gentes”
• Sustainability and Resources for Mission
Later in the day, the chapter members met in province groups to discuss how the results of the chapter will be implemented in each province.
With the proposal work completed and the implementation plans well underway, Sr. Christine gave the capitulars a free Saturday and Sunday. There was much rejoicing.
In the afternoon, the community welcomed Sr. Marie Julindis Melis from Coesfeld, the newly elected Assistant General for Europe. In the evening, the sisters from Korea and Indonesia provided some lively entertainment and special refreshments.
